This built-to-order Cross-Country Ski Chair will be handcrafted from the orange Trak skis shown in the photos.
From my collection of hundreds of vintage and modern skis, I carefully select ski combinations that create visually striking furniture while preserving the history and character of the original equipment. The photos show the exact skis that will be used to build your chair, arranged to help you envision the finished piece before construction begins.
Please note: the skis shown in these layout photos have not yet been restored and are not the finished chair. Before becoming furniture, each ski goes through a detailed cleaning and restoration process. Skis are thoroughly scrubbed, old wax is removed when necessary, stickers and residue are cleaned away, binding holes are filled and color-matched to blend with the original graphics, and a protective clear finish is applied to help preserve the appearance of the skis.
While the back and seat of the chair are crafted from authentic cross-country skis, the chair arms are made from restored downhill skis. These arm skis undergo additional restoration work, including rust removal, edge protection, and sealing to help preserve their appearance and longevity.
Each chair is handcrafted using rot-resistant hardwood and stainless steel weather-resistant hardware. The result is a sturdy, comfortable piece of functional art that celebrates the heritage of cross-country skiing while providing years of enjoyment.
Cross-country skis have a unique elegance that differs from downhill skis. Their longer, narrower profiles and often colorful graphics create a chair with a lighter visual appearance while still carrying the history and spirit of Nordic skiing.
